The centre runs a Basking Shark recording project which sends information to the Marine Conservation Society. This two day course looks at the conservation and recording of Basking Sharks.
 N.B  It is important to remember that Basking sharks are wild animals and we cannot guarantee that you will see them during the course

DAY ONE

Morning session

This session will be classroom based and will look into photographic identification techniques, how to identify individuals and a look at general guidelines to be followed.

The session will also give a guide of the key points to consider when hoping to locate basking sharks.

Afternoon session- A Boat trip along th Cornish coast looking for Basking Sharks

DAY TWO

Morning session

The day will start with a short session discussing the techniques to view any visiting Basking Sharks and their biology.

A one day course to give an overview of Shark conservation in Cornwall, the UK and around the world. The course is classroom based and will cover the following topics. 

Species and lifestyles
Shark senses and feeding.
Biology
Species in temperate and tropical waters.

Reproduction
A look at the different types of reproduction throughout the shark family.
Breeding habits and breeding grounds.

Threats to sharks
How human activity is forcing sharks into becoming an endangered species.

Conservation and surveying
Why we need to monitor shark and ray populations and how can we do it.
Conservation and protection of shark species in our local waters.
A look at shark conservation in other parts of the world
